Originally an old carriage house on a neighborhood side street in Hell's Kitchen, subsequently converted into a bar has now been transformed into a different form of drinking trough. Although relatively small in footprint, the project was complex and extreme efficiency of space was called for. A new curved bar extends into a galley kitchen, optimized for an Italian "Tapas" menu with no open flame cooking. The space includes a small enclosed outside garden area which was a central element in the design as a whole.
The overall aesthetic balances somewhere between rustic garden shed and Victorian era steel and cast-iron conservatory or "greenhouse". Natural and Botanical textures were emphasized with exposed ceiling joists and original brick walls. Finishings were slightly more elegant with steel frame shelving, mirror, feathered black marble counter and rich oak bar.
